Modern music has taken a downward spiral

Music has drastically changed from what it used to be. Back in the day we could listen to love songs and not even realize what the underlying meaning was.

As kids we were jamming to lyrics like “I’ll take you to the candy shop,” and not even understand what we were saying.

In today’s day and age the music we listen to is extremely vulgar. There’s no sliding by what the music we listen to is trying to say.

It’s blatantly there and open for everyone to listen to, even if the message is explicit.

Back in the day love songs would make you feel some type of way.  R&B music was almost written in code.

We would listen to the songs as kids and jam to the lyrics we thought we understood.

Then when we grew up and listened to those same songs, they carry a whole new meaning. Songs from the 90s use to make you feel some type of way.

Even if the song wasn’t a love song, and it was about uplifting yourself the music was still smooth and clever.

There are even songs that have been passed down and will continue to be passed down through generations.

Songs that you listen to at family functions and everyone knows, no matter what generation they’re from.

I consider these songs to be feel good songs. Music a few years ago used to inspire people.

It was more of a mental game trying to figure out what the song’s underlying meaning was.

Songs have multiple meanings, and I can listen to a song and feel happy while someone else can listen to a song and be reminded of memorable moments in their lives.

Music nowadays is all about sex, even though we have a bunch of good dance melodies. Songs that make you want to move and get out on the dance floor.

There aren’t many songs being produced today that make you feel that type of way. Songs produced today are very overt and vulgar.

They talk about women and degrading ways, and even take those moments that are supposed to be special with a partner and turn it into something dirty with lyrics like “beat it up” or “put it down on me.”

I’m not going to say that songs like this weren’t produced in the 90s or 2000s, but the amount of songs that we see that are like this today is triple the amount it was back then.

I personally feel like music is taking a turn. I can’t see myself at a cookout sitting around with my family while listening to some of the music that’s produced today.

The Migos, 21 Savage or even Cardi B. Even though I enjoy this kind of music I don’t feel like it is going to last. Music nowadays is certainly different and carries a different meaning and purpose.
