The FIU baseball team took the game 8-6 against Florida A&M University on Wednesday, March 6 to even their season record at 6-6 on the year.

The FIU baseball team split their mid-week series against FAMU after losing to them (2-3) on Tuesday, March 5. This was a much more impressive outing tonight by the FIU bullpen.

Throughout the game, the two teams were neck-and-neck, the Rattlers brought the game as close as 6-3 but the Panthers offense just proved to be too much tonight for the FAMU bullpen.

This was a special game for Coach Mervyl Melendez as the victory gave him his 600 career victory.

“I told the guys even though they have five wins, they’re going to win some games because of the fight they put up every game,” said Melendez.

Tonight’s FIU starting pitcher #33 Angel Tiburcio pitched a solid game until the fifth inning. On the other hand, the Rattlers’ starting pitcher #18 Zach Morea was relieved in just the first inning after a nightmare start.

Morea gave up four runs off of three hits including hitting three batters which helped the Panthers reel in runs. The Rattlers were shut down offensively until the third inning reeling in one run which stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth.

“We’ve had some great bullpen outings the last several games and man do they really battle, those guys have done a phenomenal job,” said Melendez about his bullpen.

The Panthers take on the Seton Hall University who enter the series with an awful 1-6 record from Friday, March 8 to Sunday, March 10

“They have a tough pitcher on Friday night so we’re just focused on Friday and handle Saturday when it arrives,” said Melendez.
