The end of the semester is almost here and with it comes the upcoming elections for student government.
The current Student Government Association has recently returned from their annual “FIU Day” visit to Tallahasee to help lobby for the University. This year, the University is requesting over $35 million in funds for various projects like the construction of a new engineering building and the creation of a water quality sensor system. You can learn more about the University’s request on our front page.
FIU’s “Out of the Darkness Walk to Fight Suicide” is also coming up on Saturday, March 30. You can check out our interview with this year’s event organizer on page 4 to learn more. Our theme pages are also something you’ll want to check out in this issue. We cover everything you need to know about the upcoming SGA elections from where the polling locations will be at the Modesto Maidique, Biscayne Bay and Engineering Campus to a list of all the different races, including the uncontested presidential races.
If you’re curious to see who the two presidential candidates are, check out page 5 for our profile on them. If you’re more interested in seeing what our columnists think about SGA, then you’ll want to check our Opinion section. In it, you’ll find pieces ranging from how SGA should give students more opportunities to participate to our editorial on how SGC-MMC is acting hypocritically with its salaries. While they’re working on getting a raise, their BBC counterparts are getting budget cuts. Check out page 9 to learn more.
And for our esports people out there, head on over to page 11. Our Sports Director sat down with University student Victoria Perez a.k.a VikkiKitty to discuss how she’s using her position as the first female esports commentator for Super Smash Bros. to help other women get into the field.
