FIU softball continues to struggle in conference play as they were not successful in avoiding being swept by North Texas on the afternoon of Sunday, March 31. The Panthers only scored four runs throughout all of the three games of the weekend series.

The pitching duel for the series finale was between FIU’s Allison Muraskin and North Texas’s Bailey Tindell.

Like the rest of the games in this series, North Texas got off to a fast start which prompted FIU to go to their bullpen and relieve Muraskin after two. When Muraskin was relieved, the Mean Green were all ready leading the game by a score of 5-0.

Kendahl Dunford took the mound for the Panthers but did not bring much support for the damage already being done. North Texas did most of the damage with two outs and happened to load the bases multiple times.

At the end of the third inning, FIU was able to get on the board but by this point the North Texas lead had grown into a score of 10-3 which prompted another Panther pitching change.

Alexys Lawson would be the new FIU pitcher who would struggle in the opening stages of her time on the mound before settling in.

North Texas was able to score four more runs when Lawson was put into the game. FIU struggled all series offensively and at the end of this game were only able to tack on one more run making it a final score of 13-4.

FIU softball falls to 18-18 on the season and a nightmarish 0-9 start in the conference.

Next up for the Panthers is a weekend series in Boca Raton against rivals Florida Atlantic University.
