FIU football signed a deal this week to renew their rivalry with the University of Central Florida.

The Panthers will play the self-proclaimed “National Champions” in 2020 and 2022.

The 2020 game will be hosted at Spectrum Stadium in Orlando and the 2022 game will be hosted at Riccardo Silva Stadium in Miami.

The two teams faced each other every season from 2011 to 2017 with the exception of 2014. The Knights currently hold a two-game winning streak over the Panthers and lead the series 4-2.

The last game played between the schools left the Panthers hurting, with the Knights winning 61-17.

With two successful years under head coach Butch Davis, the Panthers are ranked third in Conference USA by SBNation, a sports news site.

The Panthers finished last season with a 9-4 record. They missed the Conference USA championship after losing the last game of the season to Marshall University.

They went on to defeat University of Toledo in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl by a score of 35-32. The win against Toledo was the University’s second bowl game victory and gave the team it’s ninth win, the most in FIU history.

The Knights finished last season with a 12-1 record which included their first loss in two years.

The Panthers’ season begins on August 29th when they take on Tulane University at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans.
