August 2: Two Worlds Ahead Graduates Look Back On Their Time At FIU

This week on The Golden Hour we talked to two Worlds ahead Graduates. They share their personal experiences about attending FIU and facing adversities that most students don’t. They were recognized for excelling academically, succeeding despite obstacles, and using their education and experiences to make a difference.

Cindy Lewis is a grandmother of three, Florida Keys resident, and coral reef expert. She dives deep into the struggles she faced during her time researching the decline of pillar coral, how Hurricane Irma set her back, and what kept her going after all these years.

Tamar Telfort  was forced out of her house after she came out as gay. With the help of FIU’s Fostering Panther Pride program and Project UP-START, she was able to continue her studies despite her living circumstances.
