This morning PantherNOW received a screenshot from a WhatsApp group chat where a student threatened to bring an assault weapon to the Graham Center on the Modesto Maidique Campus.
The student, identified in Whatsapp as Dillon Spangler posted a picture of an assault rifle in the chat, replying to another student by saying “Wanna meet tomorrow in GC buddy? I can walk into class with this energy if you keep pissing me off you coward little kid.”

FIUPD is aware of the situation and the investigation is still developing. They are working with local and federal law enforcement to identify the person who made the threat. No one is detained so far according to FIUPD. They also said they have a plan in place to ensure the safety of all students.
University policy prohibits any students or faculty other than law enforcement personnel from possessing firearms on campus.
In Florida online threats are considered a second degree felony according to Florida Statute 836.10
PantherNOW attempted to contact Dillon Spangler, using the phone number from the contact on WhatsApp, but there was no response and the phone seems to be disconnected. When attempted via WhatsApp call, there was no response.
The phone number is registered in Wallingford, Connecticut.
This story is ongoing and will be updated. If you see something suspicious, speak up and call FIUPD.
