Update: The University cancelled classes for Tuesday, Sept. 3.
As Hurricane Dorian changes its path, FIU will not be making any plans to shelter students or Monroe County residents and will keep the FIU libraries and wellness and recreation centers open.
The University prepared for Dorian by clearing out residence halls and residents in case of a major storm impact.
Now that the storm has changed course, they have apologized for any inconvenience but stressed the importance of resident safety and invited all residents back to the dorms.
Housing is no longer making plans for sheltering students.
Both MMC and BBC campuses will be open on Sunday but will remain closed on Labor Day Monday Sept. 2.
The locations that will be open on Sunday at MMC are the Graham Center from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., 8th Street Campus Kitchen from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the Wellness and Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the Green Library from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.
The Glenn Hubert Library at BBC will be open from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The Barnes and Noble bookstore at MMC will be open Sunday also.
Dorian’s path could change, and the University emphasized hurricane season extends until November and encouraged students, faculty and staff to keep their hurricane plans up to date.
Extensions for the Add/Drop and late payment period are still extended until further notice.
The University is expected to give an update on campus operations later today.
