The Wertheim Performing Arts Center Concert Hall hosted The Alhambra Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Andai, on Sunday, Oct. 6.

The Alhambra Orchestra is a non-profit based orchestra that is mostly made up of volunteer musicians. Their mission is to expose the people of Miami-Dade County to the world of classical music at little to no cost. They realize orchestral concerts can be quite costly in Miami and hope to provide marvelous shows to those who cannot afford the expensive tickets.

Through the Alhambra Orchestra’s mission they also hope to spread awareness about music education. With performing arts funding being cut from a plethora of public schools, they believe it is essential to inform the youth about not only classical music, but music from all over the world.

The performance was based off the music of Spain and its worldwide influence. Some of the featured compositions included the Danzon #2 by Arturo Marquez, and the Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo.

The Concierto de Aranjuez performance featured Cuban-born guitarist Rafael Padron, who previously performed at the 2018 Miami International GuitART Festival.

Following their mission, the Alhambra Orchestra gave all of the proceeds from the concert towards music student scholarships.
