Traditions have always served to bring people closer together by passing along the baton of ideals towards future generations.
At the 15th Trail of the Torch event on Oct. 8, students were able to symbolically pass along knowledge, service, and understanding as the virtues that build up the FIU community.
“Trail of Torch is one of the longest and lasting traditions here at FIU,” said Carlos Roche, president of FIU Student Ambassadors.
The FIU Student Ambassadors is a student-driven organization that is responsible for raising funds and awareness for university initiative programs.
“Recently, the organization was able to successfully raise funds for the FIU emergency fund which helped fellow panthers with financial need during their time at the university,” said Roche.
Organizations such as the FIU Alumni Association, Student Government Association, FIU Arts Sciences Education and several others gathered together in support of the event. With students coming together the act of setting the torch ablaze is a moment to kindle the spirit of FIU panthers.

Trail of Torch first started back in 2004 where students walked along carrying the torch “as a symbol of knowledge, service, and understanding which are factors that affect the FIU community itself,” said Carlos.
Students not only are able to pursue their future careers here at FIU but are able to give back to the community through philanthropic events such as Trail of Torch.
As students witnessed the passing of the torch a wholesome act of unity brought students and faculty together in elevating the school spirit on campus.
Alongside the help of SGA and other fellow associations Trail of Torch was able to run on schedule.
“We get to emphasize here at Trail of Torch how important it is to raise money and awareness in impacting our communities through student-driven programs,” said Carlos.
