The matchup between FIU and Charlotte men’s soccer finished in a standstill with a scoreless tie in Panther territory.

The Panthers delivered a total of 15 missed shots towards the goal with five being saved from Charlotte’s goalie, Elliot Panicco. Charlotte struggled to put shots on net which resulted in them only having four missed shots with two being saved from FIU’s goalkeeper, Daniel Gagliardi.

FIU’s quick feet and fast passing gave them many chances to create scoring opportunities and many follow up shots to the goal from blocks, many coming from Talla Faye and Mohamed Conde.

Officials called a total of 11 fouls on both teams throughout the game and a few of them were highly questionable. There were many potential fouls that were not called in the first two halves that had fans and players upset.

Charlotte’s physical defense gave them a mental advantage and resulted in a few vocal exchanges by both teams. FIU’s quick defense had multiple steals from the 49ers and the Panthers did not back down from the 49ers physical play.  FIU’s head coach Kevin Nylen expected a physical game coming in and said “I thought they held their own tonight.”

This tie would result in FIU staying atop of Conference USA rankings with a total of 13 points and Charlotte right behind the Panthers with 12 points.

This would be FIU’s fourth tie in the season and their first scoreless tie. FIU would faceoff against the South Florida Bulls in Tampa.
