October 15: National Coming Out Day, Annual Security and Fire Safety Report Explained, and Football Conference Highlights

National Coming Out Day is on October 11, 2019. PantherNOW talked to FIU students and Connie Viamonte, an FIU professor of sociology, on why they are critical of the action of 'coming out.' Photo courtesy of FIU Flickr.

This week on the Golden Hour, we talked about the “Red Zone” and tailgates with the Chief of Police at FIU, heard a coming out story from a PantherNOW staff writer, and post football game conference clips.

University Police Chief, Alexander Casas, breaks down the purpose of the annual security and fire safety report, talks about ways in which we can look out for one another during school events, and lists the different resources available for students in times of crisis.

Jesse Fraga, a transgender, non-binary, queer staff writer for PantherNOW gives us their take on having to come out of the closet more than once.

After the football team’s second consecutive win, the season is starting to show promise. You can hear head coach, Butch Davis, talk more about the game and the season in this clip from the post game conference.
