The FIU Men’s Basketball team lost their season opener 69-77 to Mississippi State Tuesday night. Despite being underdogs, this loss is still a tough one, as the Panthers had four double-digit scorers.
Devon Andrews led the Panthers in scoring with 16 points on 7-15 shooting from the field. Trejon Jacob recorded 13 points 4 rebounds and an impressive 3 steals. Osasumwen Osaghae led the defense with 3 blocks and 3 steals, on 10 points scored and 5 boards. Eric Lovett provided points off the bench with 11 on the night.
The Panthers followed up last year with impressive defense forcing 18 turnovers. However, the Panthers also struggled with turnovers, turning over the ball 17 times.
FIU shot a 60% free throw percentage and 26.9% from three, both numbers that the Panthers hope to improve their next game and throughout the season.
The Panthers next challenge comes Friday, November 8th, 2019 at 8:30 PM. They host Ave Maria at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
