The 12th anniversary of the Uproar 2020 festival will be inspired by the hippie festival Woodstock and will be headlining artist Super Duper Kyle on January 9, 2020 at the FIU Soccer Stadium.
“We decided to make a festival like Coachella or Lollapalooza, for example, and still have interactions for people there and to give back to students,” said FIU Student Programming Council president Jessica Horsham.
Horsham said the interactive activities at the festival will include a self-care station with aromatherapy and bath bombs, fruit infusion stations for water, popcorn and a candy bar with an old school candy theme.
Super Duper Kyle was chosen to headline because “he has on-stage presence, is interactive with the crowd and has very high energy,” said Horsham.
Super Duper Kyle is an artist mostly known for his songs “iSpy,” featuring rapper Lil Yachty with 341 million views on YouTube, and “Doubt It” with 24 million views on YouTube.
After going through a list of artists that would fit the theme of the festival, he was considered the best fit for the audience and the theme of the festival, Horsham said.
The festival will also include other performances from local artists, but Horsham said that the names will be released to the public soon.
“The festival gives an opportunity for the student body to meet each other and get involved, giving them a real college feel,” said Aaron Rogers, a freshman majoring in recreational therapy who is interested in attending the event next year.
Uproar 2020 is going to be free for all FIU students. Bringing the FIU One Card is necessary for entrance. For the general public, the tickets are $20 and on the day of the festival they will be $30.
