The Panthers fought to the end in the 2019 Camellia Bowl against Arkansas State University, but were plagued by horrendous third-down defense.

The Panthers struggled stopping the Red Wolves on third down. ASU was 12-19 on third downs in the game and that was a big part of their success on offense.

The Panthers had difficulty on offense early on but were able to hold the Red Wolves to a seven-point lead heading into halftime.

The Red Wolves jumped out to a 27-13 lead at the start of the first half and things looked grim for the Panthers as the third quarter went on.

The Panthers would rally back, however, after Senior receiver Tony Gaiter IV was ejected in the third quarter for unsportsmanlike conduct.

They fought back to within one point after a 48 and 52-yard field goal followed by an Austin Maloney touchdown catch that came after a fumble recovery.

With the score 27-26, kicker Jose Borregales had the chance to put the Panthers up two with five minutes left in the game. After going 4-4 on the night, Borregales missed a short field goal.

The Red Wolves took advantage and marched down the field to score making the final score 34-26.

James Morgan ended the night with two interceptions, not the way he wanted to finish his first bowl appearance and last game at FIU.
