FIU mens soccer head coach Kevin Nylen has resigned from his position at FIU to take on a new challenge at Boston University.

Nylen’s Panthers’ made noise during 2019 season going 11-0-4 during the regular season.

Nylen was name C-USA coach of the year in 2019 after three years as head coach.

Nylen was promoted to head coach in 2016 after four years as an assistant at FIU. He ends with a 25-15-9 record over three years.

The decision to leave the #16 ranked Panthers to take over the 4-12-1 Terriers was surprising considering the success Nylen had at FIU but makes sense for Nylen personally.

Nylen, a Massachusetts native, will return to his home state and try to revitalized what he called a historic university.

“BU is a prestigious academic institution that has a rich school history established by Neil Roberts over the last 40 years. I would like to thank director of athletics Drew Marrochello for the opportunity and support to lead the program as well as Brendan Sullivan, Brittany Kane, Kristie Bowers and the rest of the search committee. I look forward to continue elevating the program moving forward.” Nylen said in a press release.

Nylen hopes to create a winning environment in his home state and with the success he had at FIU, expectations are high.

For the Panthers, a national head coaching search has already begun, per FIU athletics.

The Panthers have key seniors Andrew Booth, Nick O’Callaghan and Daniel Gagliardi heading to the MLS, leaving shoes to be filled.
