Saturday’s match up between the FIU Panthers and the Charlotte 49ers ended in a 49-75 loss for the Panthers who are now 14-7 in the season. This has them fifth in Conference USA and with only six games to go the Panther’s March Madness aspirations have taken a serious blow.
FIU was on a two-game win streak, but a lacking defense made it a simple victory for the 49ers that put up 46 points in the second half.
The 49ers offense dominated shooting 55.3% from the field and 43.8% from 3 pointers.
For the Panthers Eric Lovett scored 15, but that wasn’t enough to combat a 19 point performance from Jahmir Young and a 16 point performance from Jordan Shepherd for the 49ers.
FIU’s ball movement was lacking managing only 5 assist compared to 18 for the 49ers.
The Panthers are on a 14-game home winning streak, however, they need to improve their performance on the road.
Looking forward FIU have three consecutive home games beginning with a Thursday 1/30 match up against Marshall University who are 9-11 in the season. If the Panthers can keep the home win streak alive, they could see some much needed victories in the next weeks.
