Chanel Wimbush is bringing her talents to the Modesto A. Maidique Campus from being a backup dancer for Bad Bunny and Young Thug by introducing a new fitness class called Twerk N’ Heels.
Twerk N’ Heels is a fitness workshop put on by the Wellness & Recreation Center. It is a two-session class that will take place on Monday, Feb. 10, and Monday, Mar. 9.
Wimbush has been a dance instructor since 2016 and is also an FIU cheerleader.
This “twerkshop” draws inspiration from the dance troop Queens N’ Lettos.
“Queens N’ Lettos are dancers who travel the country offering dance workshops and events such as this,” said the assistant director of fitness and wellness, Brittany Baldwin. “Chanel has danced with this group in the past and was interested in offering a similar instructional workshop at FIU.”
The class welcomes WRC members of all ages, fitness levels and dance abilities. Students can attend the workshop for free.
“The class was created for those who want to step a bit outside of their comfort zones and have fun through dance fitness,” said Baldwin.
During the class, people will be dancing to hip hop music.
“The class consists of a two-hour dance ‘twerkshop,’ in which attendees will learn various dance routines and perfect skills that enhance dance performance,” said Baldwin.
The level of physical activity will be intermediate, according to Baldwin.
“Benefits of attending the class are that attendees will get the opportunity to learn new dance techniques from a professional dancer,” said Baldwin.
Signing up for the workshop is currently possible through the PantherFit app.
Bringing heels to the workshop is not required but is welcomed.
