SGA elections are the latest in a long list of cancellations and postponements due to the coronavirus.

The delay was announced on the “fiuelections” Instagram page on the 16th, just one day before the election was scheduled to begin. More information will be released later on, according to the post.

FIU is asking all students and staff to leave campus if they are able to, and has put classes online for the remainder of the Spring semester.

The elections code states that there should be on-campus polling locations, but provides for an online voting component. The elections board is discussing the issue.

Tatiana Arevalo, the elections commissioner for Modesto Maidique Campus, did not respond to PantherNOW’s request for comment.

Elections have already been in disarray this year. Candidate registration was extended for weeks, and technology failures led to the elections board not releasing candidate information on time.
