Food Pantries to Remain Open During Pandemic

By: Nicole Heller / Staff Writer

During the university’s remote learning schedule, FIU’s Student Food Pantry will be offering pre-made, ten-pound bags containing an assortment of non-perishable food items to assist students during these uncertain times.

These bags are made available to students on a weekly basis. The pantry’s food items are obtained through donations made by faculty, staff, and members of the community through the Ignite campaign.

Joanna Garcia, the Associate Director of the Center for Leadership and Service noted in an email to PantherNOW, that because of the donations made to Ignite, “Our team is able to use these funds to shop for food in order to restock the pantries”.

Garcia encourages those interested in keeping the pantries stocked to make their donations to the FIU Student Food Pantry Project via Ignite. Students can pick up these bags Monday through Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at GC 1210 at Modesto Maidique Campus or  Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wolfe Univerisity Center Information Desk at Biscayne Bay Campus.
