“Equality, dignity, inclusion, and belonging” this is what FIU President Rosenberg assured students this would be advocated for through a core advisory group, composed of three individuals.

The project will be called the Equity Action Initiative, a plan that will help improve race relations and eliminate systematic racism.

This group would be led by El pagnier Hudson, Vice President of Human Resources, Dr. Valerie Patterson, associate professor in the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs, and Delrish Moss, captain of the FIU police department.

According to the email sent late afternoon Rosenberg is committed to removing any form of implicit biases that exist in their administration. With the support of these three departments, he believes that a community that fosters fairness and social equity is doable.

“I have asked this core advisory group to spend the next 30 days reviewing options and initiatives that can help us reform and improve the approach to our work,” said Rosenberg in the email.

He will also have the support of Provost Kenneth Furton to come up with a strategy that is “extensive enough to be impactful both in the institution and in the community,” as stated in the email.

An assessment is being made on how the university can implement initiatives that are focused on the community, FIUPD, higher education, and the university as well.
