Breaking News: Shooting in Taco Bell Near MMC

Update: A shooting occurred in the Taco Bell next to the Modesto Maidique Campus, two white males fled east in a white Mercedes.

A 39-year-old man was shot several times at the site and later died at Kendall Regional Trauma Center. Police have not been able to identify the assailant who fled.

The FIU Police department reported the event and is giving updates to the situation through their twitter account, @fiupolice.

“I received a call from one of my employees notifying me that there was a shooting at the plaza, 3 minutes after I made the delivery,” said Pedro Bracho, general manager at the Jimmy Johns in the plaza. 

One person was taken to the hospital and another was fatally wounded by an unidentified shooter, according to Bracho’s employees who were on site at the time of the shooting.

Miami Dade police closed the 107 avenue and SW 8th street plaza. 

FIU informed the university community to avoid the area through the FIU alerts system.
