If 15-cent tickets aren’t enough to convince you to sit in a theater again, you can always enjoy a classic film from the comfort of your car.

That’s right, the pandemic has brought the return of an old-time favorite: drive-ins and now one’s parking itself right next to campus.

The Miami-Dade Youth Fairgrounds, located next to FIU’s Modesto Maidique campus, is temporarily transforming into a drive-in theater.

Starting Aug. 14 through Sep. 06, residents can catch a variety of family-friendly films such as the “Secret Life of Pets 2” as well as some of the usual crowd-pleasers like “Grease” and “The Addams Family”, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

In a new era of social distancing and closures, the fairgrounds is just one of the many outdoor locations and parking lots offering the public a ride back to the 1950s.

The drive-in is the first outdoor movie experience created by 3FEO Entertainment, a Coral Gables-based firm.

Although the pandemic cancelled the annual county fair typically held from March to April, people will be pleased to hear that some of their favorite and usually fried fair food is sticking around.

Blue cotton candy, popcorn chicken and cheese fries are just a few of the mouth-watering treats you’ll be able to munch on during your nostalgic viewing experience. If that’s not for you, you can keep it simple with a bag of buttery popcorn.

To avoid lines at concession stands, you can preorder your snacks and have it delivered straight to your car.

It’s the ultimate drive-and-dine-in experience.

Showings for this upcoming weekend include two showings of the 1987 Patrick Swayze dance drama, “Dirty Dancing”, on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. While everyone’s favorite ogre, “Shrek” will be on the big screen Sep. 6 at 3:30 p.m.

Passes are $11.00 per adult and children 15 years and younger have free entry. You can purchase tickets in advance and view showtimes here. Once you purchase a ticket, you can reserve your parking space.

The Miami-Dade Youth Fairgrounds is located at 10901 Coral Way, Miami.

Other nearby drive-in theater locations include Wynwood’s Carpool Cinema, the Hard Rock’s In-stadium drive-up and the Carflix Cinema in North Miami’s Dezerland Park.
