The FIU class of 2020 will have a virtual graduation in December.

FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg announced fall commencement will be online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in an email sent today to the FIU community.

The virtual ceremony will be Sunday, Dec.13 at 2 p.m.

“For everyone’s safety, and following a State University System recommendation to develop alternate plans for fall commencement ceremonies, we will host a virtual commencement in December,” said Rosenberg’s email.

FIU also canceled in-person spring and summer commencement this year due to the virus.

The university will host a campus caravan and activities for fall 2020 graduates, according to the email.

“For our Fall virtual commencement, we’re bringing out true Panther spirit, with exciting features for our graduates such as contests, commencement toolkits for social media and yard signs,” said the email.

Rosenberg suggested students and their families host in-home ceremonies and caravan and share their experience on social media to make graduation memorable.

“Our goal is to give our Fall graduates an even more memorable Panther commencement experience,” said Rosenberg’s email to the FIU community.
