FIU campuses will close Nov. 9 due to severe weather conditions caused by Tropical Storm Eta, FIU announced in a recent email to students.

All classes, including those online and remote, are canceled.

Tropical Storm Eta is expected to bring heavy rain and winds to South Florida; the Miami area is currently under a tropical storm warning, a hurricane watch, and a storm surge watch.

The storm made landfall in Cuba Sunday morning and could reach Florida as either a tropical storm or hurricane.

In their email, FIU cautioned students to take precautions and monitor the storm’s progress.

Students may park their vehicles on levels 2-4 of parking garages at FIU, according to the email.

Classes are also canceled Wednesday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

FIU will update students on future university operations in later emails.
