Sitting around the table eating some delicious turkey would not be as symbolic as it is without reflecting on the great things in life.
In addition to giving thanks, it is important to think about the families who are struggling during such an unprecedented time and to give back.
This can be done by donating food to organizations and charity events happening in South Florida. Here are some ways to give back to the community.
Sheridan House’s Thanksgiving Blessings Drive-Thru Event
Help those unable to put food on the table this Thanksgiving by donating goods to the Sheridan House Thanksgiving Food Drive. Due to current conditions, the organization will be making this food drive a drive-thru event.
Participants can safely donate traditionals holiday foods such as yams, cranberry sauce, instant mashed potatoes, and stuffing.
They can also provide gift cards from stores such as Publix, Target, and Walmart or can donate money to the official website. Donations will provide struggling families with the means to make a Thanksgiving meal.
SOBEWFF Thanksgiving Table To-Go
The South Beach Wine & Food Festival is partnering with the Constellation Culinary Group to give back to the community this holiday. SOBEWFF is selling Thanksgiving Table To-Go packages with one hundred percent of the proceeds benefiting the festival’s relief efforts.
Three different variety packs are being offered, including sweet goods such as freshly baked breads, La Crema wine, desserts, and Pellegrino Sparkling Water.
For every 25 meals sold, SOBEWFF will donate a meal to a member of the local hospitality community affected by the pandemic.
For those not interested in purchasing a meal but want to help, flower arrangements from Anthology Co. are available as well. You can view all the Thanksgiving To-Go packages here.
Volunteer or Donate to Feeding South Florida
Feeding South Florida is a nonprofit organization aiming to end hunger among those in poverty. The cause is always looking for volunteers to help sort and distribute food to families in need, especially for Thanksgiving. To take part, volunteers must access the official website and select volunteer now. Afterwards, they must pick which days and times are best for them. For those who don’t have the time to volunteer, Feeding South Florida also takes donations.Every dollar collected provides 9 meals, any amount counts.
Branches Thanksgiving Volunteering Event
Urban and social justice agency Branches is packaging and delivering meals to those in need on Thanksgiving Day. Anyone from all ages can join in on all the good fun. There are various sites located in the Miami-Dade and Broward counties that participants can visit to be involved. These locations include Branches Florida City, Branches Lakeview, and Miramar UMC. Volunteers must register on the official Branches website to take part in the event.
Start Your Own Food Drive
For some, donating isn’t enough when it comes to trying to help those in need. Instead, start your own local food drive. Anyone can host their own Thanksgiving event by signing up at Move For Hunger. Organizers will be given flyers and a source of transportation to move donations to a local food bank. To host your own food drive, visit the Move For Hunger website.
