The FIU women’s basketball team postponed this weekend’s doubleheader against the Charlotte 49ers due to health concerns in the team.
The FIU athletics department announced the suspension today but it is unknown if COVID-19 cases within the Panthers are the reason.
“Due to health and safety protocols within the FIU women’s basketball team, this weekend’s series against Charlotte has been postponed.” read the FIU athletics department statement.
“The 49ers and FIU will work with the Conference USA office in an effort to reschedule the games this season,” The Charlotte 49ers said in a statement.
This isn’t the first time FIU has had to deal with schedule changes.
Their first game of the season against the Stetson Hatters was postponed for the same reason, and there’s been no word if the game will be rescheduled.
FIU will continue its C-USA schedule next week traveling to San Antonio, Texas, to take on the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners. They are scheduled to play Friday, February 5th at 7p.m. and Saturday, February 6th at 5p.m. Both games can be seen on C-USA TV.
