COVID-19 Dashboard Update: FIU Had 31 New Cases Last Week

FIU reported 31 new COVID-19 cases last week.

18 students and 13 faculty or staff members according to the university’s dashboard.

Nine of the new student cases were living or learning on campus and the other half were students learning remotely. Six faculty or staff members working on campus reported having the virus while the remaining seven are working remotely. 

The number of new COVID-19 cases of students living or learning on campus has decreased with nine new cases being reported compared to last week’s 16 cases. The number of faculty and staff members has also decreased with 6 cases being reported while 10 cases were reported last week.

The number of new COVID-19 cases of students learning remotely decreased with nine new cases compared to last week’s 14 cases.

The dashboard recorded an increase in faculty and staff members working from home with seven new cases compared to the four reported last week. 

In the past four weeks FIU has seen a decline in the numbers of COVID-19 cases self-reported by students and faculty or staff members, with the highest number of cases reported being 78 the first week of the spring semester.

The university’s COVID-19 dashboard only reflects cases that are self-reported by students and faculty to the Student Affairs and Human Resources divisions or the FIU COVID-19 Response Team. 

The FIU dashboard divides COVID-19 cases into four categories; students living or learning on campus, students learning remotely, faculty/staff working on campus, or working remotely.

A total of 208 cases has been reported since the start of the spring semester,  with 133 being students and the remaining 75 being faculty and staff members. 

A total of 692 cases have been self reported to FIU since the beginning of the fall semester 25 weeks ago. There were 455 cases reported by students, 231 of which were students living or learning on campus and the other 224 learning remotely. Of the 237 cases reported by faculty/staff members, 107 were working on campus while the remaining 130 were working from home.
