The FIU women’s soccer team lost against the North Florida Ospreys last Friday, then bounced back and beat the Jacksonville Dolphins on Sunday.

Their loss against North Florida was by a score of 3-1, and set them back to a 1-1 season record, but the 1-0 win against Jacksonville has improved their record to 2-1.

Having beaten the Dolphins 2-0 in their season opener on February 7th, the Panthers had momentum going into this weeks’ matchup.

FIU’s overall record against the Ospreys is 3-4-2, with the last three games ending in a loss for the Panthers, including their previous 3-1 loss on September 6th, 2019.

On Friday, the Ospreys took the lead in the 36th minute of the first half. FIU squandered their chance of an equalizer after defender Estefania Cardona missed a penalty, keeping the lead for North Florida at 1-0 at halftime.

The Ospreys came back stronger in the second half by scoring two quick-fire goals that put them 3-0 up by the 50th minute. The Panthers responded eight minutes later with forward Kédie Johnson getting on the scoresheet.

Ultimately, FIU’s goal proved to be only a consolation as they were unable to spark a comeback. The game finished by a score of 3-1.

The Panthers had four out of five shots on goal, compared to North Florida’s nine out of 13. FIU received three yellow cards and committed 14 fouls.

Sunday’s game against Jacksonville proved to be much closer as the Panthers won in overtime with a golden goal scored by midfielder Ronja Cronvall in the 95th minute, which was assisted by midfielder Carmin Marin.

Throughout the match, FIU got 13 shots off with seven on goal while Jacksonville managed eight shots but only two on target. It also proved to be a scrappy affair as the Panthers committed 10 fouls as opposed to the Dolphins’ six.

FIU’s head-to-head history against Jacksonville is 4-3, and they have won four consecutive games against them.

The Panther’s next game will be on the road against the Stetson Hatters on Friday, February 18th at 6 p.m.
