The FIU Men’s Basketball team’s second matchup against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles was cancelled due to COVID-19 issues with Southern Miss.
The game was meant to be played on Saturday, February 20th at 2pm at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
“Due to COVID-19 related issues on the Southern Miss men’s basketball team, and out of an abundance of caution, today’s game has been cancelled,” read a statement by FIU Athletics earlier today.
This is cause for concern for the Panthers as they played the Golden Eagles yesterday at 7pm in the FIU arena. The announcement from Southern Miss about potential COVID-19 cases was not released until this morning, meaning FIU could have come into contact with an infected individual.
The Panthers are scheduled to finish off their season next weekend with a trip to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Friday, February 26th at 8pm and Saturday, February 27th at 5pm.
