COVID-19 UPDATE: FIU Had 32 New Cases Last Week

FIU had 32 new COVID-19 cases last week.

21 students and 11 faculty or staff self-reported having the virus the week of Feb. 22, according to the FIU COVID-19 dashboard.

Of the 21 new student cases reported, 14 live or learn on campus. The remaining seven were of students learning remotely.

Only five of the eight faculty or staff who reported having the virus last week work on campus. The remaining six faculty or staff members work remotely 

The university’s COVID-19 dashboard only reflects cases that are self-reported by students and faculty to the Student Affairs and Human Resources divisions or the FIU COVID-19 Response Team. 

The FIU dashboard divides COVID-19 cases into four categories; students living or learning on campus, students learning remotely, faculty/staff working on campus, or working remotely.

A total of 306 cases has been reported since the start of the spring semester,  with 198 being students and the remaining 108 being faculty and staff members. 

There were 790 cases reported by students, 271 of which were students living or learning on campus and the remaining 249 learning remotely. Of the 270 cases reported by faculty and staff members, 118 were working on campus while the other 152 were working from home.
