The FIU baseball team was defeated in a tripleheader against the Indiana State Sycamores on Friday, March 5th and Sunday, March 7th.

The Panthers have fallen to a 4-6 overall record with their four game losing streak. They’re currently fourth out of the six teams in the Conference USA Eastern Division.

Indiana State dominated game one as they put up five runs in the first four innings. Meanwhile, the Panthers remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when they scored their only two runs of the game off a triple by outfielder Justin Farmer and a single by first baseman Adrian Figueroa.

Throughout the game, FIU struggled to get on the scoreboard and was unable to keep Indiana State at bay as they continued to increase their lead. In each inning, Indiana State continued to produce runs and made it impossible for FIU to catch up. The final run of the night for the Sycamores came at the top of the 8th to cap off the game with a 2-13 loss for the Panthers.

Game two was played on March 7, and the Sycamores controlled the entire game, again, from the get go. They ran up the score with seven runs in the first six innings.

The Panthers failed to respond until the bottom of the sixth where they put up their first two runs, and their last two came at the bottom of the seventh leaving. Still, it wasn’t enough as the Sycamores maintained their advantage to the end, winning 9-4.

The panthers played the third game of the series just 45 minutes after their defeat. Just like every game, Indiana State was the first team to score with a pair of runs in the second and third innings. FIU responded with a run off a triple by shortstop Steven Ondina in the bottom of the third, and another off a double by outfielder Juan Teixiera in the fourth.

Despite the Panther’s efforts, Indiana State broke the game wide open with four runs in the sixth inning. No more runs were scored by either team afterwards, and the Sycamores ended the series with a score of 7-2.

The Panthers will now head on the road to Conway, South Carolina to face the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Game one will be on Friday, March 12th at 4pm. Game two will be the following day at noon, and game three will be 45 minutes after it ends. The series will finish on Sunday, March 14th at noon.
