FIU had 24 new COVID-19 cases last week.
13 students and 11 faculty or staff members self-reported having the virus the week of March 8, according to the university’s dashboard.
Of the 13 new student cases, nine live or learn on campus. The remaining four cases were of students learning remotely. When it comes to faculty or staff, nine of the 11 members who reported having the virus last week work on campus.
The number of new COVID-19 cases of students learning remotely was four cases, this number is same reported the previous week.
The university reported a continued increase in COVID-19 cases for faculty or staff working on campus with nine new cases compared to the eight reported last week following zero cases on the week of Feb. 22.

The university’s COVID-19 dashboard only reflects cases that are self-reported by students and faculty to the Student Affairs and Human Resources divisions or the FIU COVID-19 Response Team.
The FIU dashboard divides COVID-19 cases into four categories; students living or learning on campus, students learning remotely, faculty/staff working on campus, or working remotely.
Since the beginning of the spring semester, the university has seen an increase in cases compared to the start of the fall semester which saw 14 new cases in the first week.
The highest number of cases reported was 78 during the first week of the spring semester.
A total of 368 cases have been self-reported to the university since the beginning of the semester. 240 students and 128 faculty or staff members have reported contracting the virus
A total of 852 cases have been self-reported to the university since the start of the fall semester 30 weeks ago. Of the 560 student cases self-reported to the university so far, 301 live or study on campus. 132 of the 290 faculty or staff who’ve self-reported having the virus teach or work on campus.
The dashboard is updated every Monday by the FIU COVID-19 Response Team.
