FIU Women’s Soccer was shut out at home by the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on Friday, March 26th by a score of 3-0.
The Panthers now have an overall record of 3-8 and their 1-4 conference record puts them second to last out of the seven teams in the Eastern Division of C-USA, with only the Marshall Thundering Herd having a worse record.
Matching up with Middle Tennessee has been a historical struggle for the Panthers, having a 3-15 record against the Blue Raiders. Friday’s loss extends FIU’s losing streak against the Blue Raiders to four games.
As soon as the first whistle was blown, the Panthers found themselves under attack from the Blue Raiders high intensity offense. One minute into the game the Blue Raiders would led 1-0 after taking advantage of a defensive error by FIU.
The Panthers couldn’t keep MT off the scoreboard for long as the Blue Raiders took a 2-0 lead after an own goal by FIU in the seventh minute. Just two minutes later Middle Tennessee would score the third goal of the game, with their ninth minute strike sealing FIU’s fate. The remainder of the first half saw a step up in play from the Panthers as they fired off five shots in the first half.
Out of halftime, FIU continued to search for a way back, pressuring Middle Tennessee. Taking a total of three shots in the half, none of them landed for FIU as they failed to score on any shot. The match eventually ended in a 3-0 loss for the Panthers.
Both teams picked up eight fouls each. Three yellow cards were given out, with two for the Panthers. Defender Sierra Moss received a yellow in the 15th minute and forward Charity O’Neal saw yellow in the 62nd minute.
Coming up next for FIU is their final game of the regular season- a trip to Boca Raton against the Florida Atlantic Owls on Friday, April 9th, at 7pm. This will conclude FIU’s entire season as they’re likely to miss the C-USA tournament with a losing record.
