After a quick summer break the FIU men’s soccer team kicked off their preseason with a set of three games from August 16 to August 20. Matching up with Atlantis Owls, Nova Southeastern Sharks, and the Stetson Hatters, the Panthers won all three games by a combined score of 15-2.
The first preseason match was on the 16th and was a blowout victory over the Owls. The Panthers scored seven goals and only allowed one. A convincing start to the preseason, FIU was able to give a majority of the players a run during the game, serving as a fitness boost for the squad.
A slight step up in opposition came on August 18 as FIU defeated Nova Southeastern by a score of 4-1. Controlling the tempo of the game for almost the entire match, the ball was often possessed by the Panthers in Shark territory. The match provided a solid win to boost the squads morale.
Concluding the three game week was a road trip to take on the Stetson Hatters. Dominating the game, FIU shut out the Hatters, claiming a 4-0 victory.
After a solid preseason, fitness levels and match sharpness will be raised for the regular season starting this week
After three games in five days, the Panthers set their sights on Orlando with a matchup with the Central Florida Knights. UCF ranks 13th in the country and will provide stiff competition for the Panthers to kick off their season on August 26 at 7pm.
