FIU’s Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs (SIPA) was recognized as a member of the prestigious Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA).

This signifies the first time a Florida university has ever been accepted into the association. FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg announced the milestone in an email on Thursday Sept. 2.

“With this designation, the result of a rigorous review process, our FIU is now part of an elite international network recognized for having exceptional schools of international affairs,” stated Rosenberg.

The APSIA is a leading organization for international relations, made up of only 40 schools worldwide. This includes Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Duke, Georgetown, and Johns Hopkins.

The designation opens the door for more internship and career opportunities for FIU graduate students, as well as an increase in recruitment of new faculty through the organization’s extensive network.

“This is an incredible milestone for our FIU and our Green School, highlighting our faculty’s efforts and success in producing globally engaged citizens and reinforcing our role as a university of international impact,” read the email.

Its alumni make up the executive cabinets of over 12 countries, as well as consistently ranking as a top five producer for the U.S. Presidential Management Fellows and Boren Fellows, a national leadership training program.

Rosenberg attributed the nomination to the university’s leaders and supporters of SIPA including the Green family, state legislature and Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation.

“We are also grateful to Founding Dean John F. Stack, Jr. and the entire faculty and professional staff at the Green School for setting a high bar and for offering our students a world-class, global education,” stated Rosenberg.
