Nominees for the 2021 Latin Grammys and FIU Student Thoughts

The 2021 Latin Grammys will be held this year in Las Vegas, Nevada. A celebration in which the Latin Recording Academy is preparing to give its highest recognition to the Latin artists.

The list of nominees for the Latin Grammy Awards was announced the morning of Tuesday, Sept 28. The nominations recognize Latin artists for their excellence and their achievements throughout the year.

Colombian singer Camilo leads the list of nominees for the 2021 Latin Grammy Awards with 10 nominations. Followed by Juan Luis Guerra with six, C. Tangana with five; Bad Bunny and Pablo Alborán with four.

In addition to male latin artists, 11 women are nominated in the four main categories: record of the year, album of the year, song of the year and best new artist.

Among the most prominent women in these nominations include: Paula Arenas, Evaluna Montaner, Nana Caymmi, Natalia Lafourcade, Mon Laferte, Paloma Mami, María Becerra, Karol G and Selena Gomez.

With Latin / Hispanic students making up about 66% of the population at FIU, many students express their opinions on the list of nominees and which artists they are rooting for.

“The best must win, Camilo and Juan Luis Guerra deserve their nominations because they represent the Hispanic culture very well,” states junior Kevin Duran

The opinion of the  Latin/Hispanic students at FIU is very diverse and wide, although Bad Bunny is one of the students’ favorites.

“Bad bunny deserves to take all his nominations because he is the king of reggaetón and for me he is the best,” Kiara Lanz said.

The awards will take place on Nov. 18 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, United States. The event will be broadcast throughout the United States and Latin America.

List of Nominees to the Latin Grammys 2021 

This year, the Song of the Year category features a diverse group of composers such as: J Balvin, Carlos Vives y Ricky Martin, Ricardo Montaner y Juan Luis Guerra, Maluma, Juan Luis Guerra y Nella Yotuel, Rauw Alejandro y Camilo.

Album of the Year also has excellent album nominations such as the following: Vértigo, Pablo Alborán. Mis amores, Paula Arenas. El último tour del mundo, Bad Bunny. Salswing! Rubén Blades y Roberto Delgado & Orquesta. Mis manos, Camilo. Nana, Tom, Vinicus, Nana Caymmi. Origen, Juanes. Un canto por México, Vol. II Natalia Lafourcade. El Madrileño C. Tangana.

In addition, the Best New Artist category has a sensational group of nominees: Giulia Be, María Becerra, Bizarrap, Boza, Zoe Gotusso, Humbe, Rita Indiana, Lasso, Paloma Mami and Marco Mares and Juliana Velásquez.
