FIU announced on Tuesday afternoon that Scott Carr will become the next athletic director for Florida International University, effective on Wednesday, December 1.
Carr was the deputy athletics director for brand activation at the University of Central Florida since April 2018 and previously executive associate athletic director when he was first hired in 2016.
Before his time at UCF, Carr worked at Auburn University, responsible for external affairs in the athletic department from 2009-2016. He also worked at Southern Mississippi as well as the FedEx Orange Bowl, serving in various capacities in 2001-2009.
Carr is a Gainesville native, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Florida in 1995 and a master’s degree in sports management in 1997.
Carr said in his introductory video, “We know there is a lot of pride, especially a lot of Panther Pride here in the community, and taking things to new heights.”
His first priority will be finding a new head coach for the football program, as earlier this month it was announced Butch Davis would not return following the season’s end after going 1-11 in 2021.
Already 12 players have transferred out of the program, including receiver Tyrese Chambers, who finished the season holding the single season record in receiving yards and touchdowns in FIU history.
