Through a university-wide email, FIU’s Division of Information Technology announced on May 26 that student email accounts will start migrating from Google Workspace to the Microsoft 365 platform on June 5.

This transition involves all FIU student email addresses, calendars, contacts and cloud service providers. FIU IT expects to migrate all student accounts to Microsoft 365 by June 20.

According to the announcement, FIU students should have complete access to their Gmail and Google Drive accounts throughout the transition period. Once the transition is complete, students will receive an email notification with access information to their M365 account.

Students will have access to their Gmail accounts 60 days after their account is transitioned.

Once student accounts are transitioned to M365, they will have access to 1.5 Terabytes of OneDrive Cloud Storage and access to Microsoft Office apps like Outlook, Powerpoint, Word and OneNote.

Students will be able to access Google Drive until October 1, 2022.

The IT Division recommends using a migration tool like Microsoft Mover or Google Takeout to transition files from Google Drive to Microsoft OneDrive. Alternatively, students can also download and re-upload files and folders.

FIU IT recommends organizing Google Drive files and reviewing access permissions to ease the transition process.
