Upcoming Community Events This Week

The beginning of the semester can be a stressful time for students, but June is right around the corner so new adventures are in the air. Here are events happening this week to take the edge off. Most of the gatherings are free so students and their families can join in on the fun.

Lux Doral
Doral’s first interactive arts and entertainment program is Lux Doral. A crossroad where creativity meets industrial landscapes. These sculptures are free for the community to see. Their website has a list of all the events and exhibits that are available. Their ongoing exhibitions are called Balance, Timegate, and Life Breath, each made by creatives that tell a story through their work. The shows start at sunset and end at 10 p.m., Monday to Sunday.

Monday Nights Half Priced Bowling

King’s Dining and Entertainment, a restaurant at 3450 NW 83rd Ave., holds an event every Monday where bowling costs are half priced for people who work in the service industry. The price is $9.50 per person starting at 9 p.m. until closing hours. Simply bring a valid ID or proof of employment to pay the discounted price. The location also has a menu that offers burgers, fries and pizzas.
During Industry Nights, their pizzas are half off. Don’t forget to bring family and friends to enjoy this special night for Memorial Day.

Memorial Day Art & Honor

Grails Restaurant and Bar will be honoring veterans this Memorial Day. Starting at 4 p.m., the location will display “A Presentation of Colors”, works of art from U.S. Army Field Artillery Combat Veteran Jose Belen, throughout the bar. The sports bar will also have a 20% discount for those who have served with valid proof. There will be patriotic-inspired drinks, live music and a menu that offers many options for everyone in the family.

Sunset Gathering

End the holiday with a relaxing evening at the park. At 5 p.m. on Memorial Day, Willis D. Harding Park hosts an event to watch the sunset together. There will be music, meditation and good vibes all around to enjoy the sun-gazing with friends and family. Bring a yoga mat or towel and wear comfortable attire to enhance to comfiness of the warm summer sun.

Brickell Tech Tuesdays

This one is for the locals in Brickell. Little Brittany will be hosting an event for the tech community in the neighborhood at 6:30 p.m., May 31. This spot offers a casual setting to hangout outdoors in the shade with reasonably priced drinks. Do not worry if you cannot attend this event. This gathering occurs every final Tuesday of the month so you will be able to attend next month if you miss out this month.

Free Wednesday Workouts

Start the month off with a good sweat on Wednesday with Isi Elite Training in Miami. This workout facility will be holding a free training session at 6:15 p.m., June 1. The workout will be led by a certified fitness coach to perform exercises attendees can feel good about. The program will be taking place outdoors for at least 50 minutes at 2200 Biscayne Boulevard. Bring your biggest water bottle because the workout will be intense.

R&B Night

Tipsy Flamingo will be hosting a night for lovers and friends from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., Thursday. The cocktail bar is located at 40 Northeast 1st Avenue where Aliyo will be playing R&B jams until the clock strikes midnight. An RSVP to this event will get you a free welcome drink once you arrive. There will be a two-for-one deal on their specialty cocktail “Candy Rain” at the function. After midnight, the DJ will take requests for songs.

Gallery Nights at the Museum

The Coral Gables Museum holds free admissions to their exhibitions every first Friday of the month. Starting at 6 p.m., the art gallery opens to the public and there will be live music and a cash bar to prepare for your evening in the area. Music will be played by Purpleberry Jam, a doral-based band that covers music by Santana, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd. The musicians will also play their originals songs from their upcoming album. The event ends at 10 p.m. so be sure to arrive early to indulge in all the venue has to offer.

Pride Walk

Cocowalk Plaza is celebrating pride month with a gathering at 3015 Grand Avenue from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday. Special guests Angie Ovahness and Ketta Mina are attending and you have a chance to donate to Pridelines with select drinks and food you purchase at the event. Being one of the first events for Pride Month, you are not going to want to miss this.

Farmers Market

The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens hosts a village farmers market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday. Indulge in what local artists and vendors have to offer at this one-of-a-kind location. There are many hidden gems to discover at the Vizcaya Village. At 11 a.m., attendees get the opportunity to explore the areas with a free 30 minute guided tour.
