The presidential search has lasted the entirety of the summer. With a loose timeline, it looks like it will extend into the fall semester.

Over the summer the presidential committee sent an email to the FIU community detailing the work done during the application process including, the initial vetting process and the slower and more deliberate selection of top candidates.

Due to the Florida Senate Bill 520, which forced all presidential searches to be done confidentially, many of the meetings and happenings of FIU’s search have been unknown to the public.

PantherNOW reached out to committee members but was met with no comment, other than a single message from Professor Deanne Butchey.

“We have a diverse committee and we are taking in everything we can,” said Butchey. “We want the best for the community.”

Within the first few weeks of the fall semester, the committee is planning to invite the top contenders to FIU to meet with multiple groups, get interviewed by the Board of Trustees, and to get a feel for the campus.
