The night was young and the crowd was ready for a beer at FIU main campus on Feb. 18 at Brew

Miami.

FIU Brew Miami was a craft beer festival organized by FIU staff members and local brewing companies to show off the local brews. A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit FIU scholarships.

At the gate, crowds were greeted by event staff and sent on their way with a 2 oz. cup to get started on testing the local brews.

Twenty-eight different stands were scattered throughout the festival. Many different barley, lager, and malt liquor flavors were ready to take the stage and keep the people ready for what was to come.

Loco Por Ti, a local brewing company based in the heart of Miami made an appearance providing samples of a beer that is served with triumph in its heart. A brew meant to unite the exiled community of Cubans that live in Miami Dade and revive Cuban culture. Mi Cr-stal.

Funky Buddha stands running out of samples to give.

Funky Buddha started up in Boca Raton where the main goal was to challenge the norms with a brew that would encapsulate the Florida sunset. Now based in Oakland Park, there is a drink for everyone looking to get funky from their new hard seltzers to their Floridian wheat beer.

Beyond the beer, there was a multitude of other things to do.

Cornhole was one of the games offered to the participants as a way to have some friendly competition. There were also two Jenga tables set up so that the participants could drop into the vibes here at Brew Miami.

The dance floor was on fire and DJ Zog from Miami’s Party Station 96.5 brought the heat. The music selection for the evening got everyone out of their shells and had everyone dancing their way through the tastings allowing for a walkway that was filled with the limelight.

One participant had invited a friend along to try some beers on her birthday “ We found out about the event from a friend. It was her birthday so we wanted to try some local beers. Pa la Pina has been my favorite thus far.”

Brew Miami was one of the hottest FIU Events to start the year. Laughs were shared, beers were consumed, and most importantly bonds were made. Brew Miami was nothing short of a success.
