After receiving eight division I offers, class of 2024 quarterback Clayton Dees announced his commitment to FIU football on July 7, 2023, via his twitter post.
Dees, the six-foot two-inch, 180 pound quarterback spent his first three years at Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton, Florida. During his junior campaign, he completed 51.5% of his passes, amassing 1,704 yards, 13 passing touchdowns and three interceptions as his team finished with a 6-4 record.
Proving himself to be a passing threat, Dees has also found success as a mobile quarterback. In the same season, he carried the ball 67 times for 391 yards and three touchdowns. That’d give him an average of 5.8 yards per carry, making him an elite rusher when needed.
Through his high level of play, he earned a three-star ranking on 247Sports. Following his junior season, Dees decided to take his talents to Miami Palmetto Senior High School in Miami, Florida.
Dees received offers from Appalachian State, Holy Cross, UAB, Temple, Fordham, UMass and Charleston Southern before choosing FIU.
Outside of football, Dees also received an offer from the University of Miami in 2020 to play baseball.
Still having one more high school season left to play, Dees could be a smart decision maker with a huge arm for the Panthers. With the amount of time he has remaining in high school, he can still improve even considering his strong body of work.
The Panthers currently have four quarterbacks on the roster and adding a fifth gives the team flexibility and depth at the position.
