FIU has been ranked as one of the best public universities in both Florida and around the nation, according to several news outlets in recent weeks.
On Aug. 27, Washington Monthly magazine released its annual National University Rankings, placing FIU as the 19th best university in the nation, ranking it as the sixth best public university in the nation, and the best university in Florida altogether.
Washington Monthly ranks universities based on three metrics: opportunities for social mobility, commitment to research, and commitment to community service, locally and nationwide.
This is a significant improvement from last year’s rankings, which placed FIU as 32nd on the list.
The Wall Street Journal came with even higher praise. In its America’s Best Colleges 2024 ranking list, FIU was ranked as the fourth best public university in the nation, coming in at 29th best overall.
The Wall Street Journal worked with college surveying company College Pulse and marketing firm Statista to compile their list based on a survey composed of 60,000 students and alumni, as well as analyzing student outcome metrics, such as starting salaries and graduation rates.
Most recently, FIU was included in the list of recognized colleges for The Great Colleges to Work For Program as being one of the best universities to work for in the United States. FIU was recognized in eight categories, and has placed on the list seven years in a row.
The Great Colleges Program derives its results from a nationwide survey, surveying a pool of 44,432 faculty and staff members nationwide.
“I think it’s a big success, not only for FIU, but for Miami as a city,” said journalism senior Paula Silva.
“I think that’s something to be proud of… I’m really proud to go to FIU.”
