The FIU football team is playing their homecoming game against the Liberty Flames on Saturday, Sep. 23, 2023 in Miami, Florida.
In their previous game, the Panthers took down the UConn Huskies 24-17 behind an unstoppable first half from the offense.
Leading the offense was freshman quarterback Keyone Jenkins, who is now 3-0 since being named starter and has totaled more than 300 all-purpose yards in each game.
Bolstering a 3-1 record attempt to continue this great start to a season and extend their winning streak to four games.
Starting their season in a dominant fashion, the Flames hold an undefeated 3-0 record following a 55-27 win against the Buffalo Bulls on Sep. 16, 2023.
Erupting offensively, sophomore quarterback Kaidon Salter reached over 400 total yards and threw for five touchdowns.
Playing in eight games in 2022, Salter threw for over 1,000 yards and recorded ten total touchdowns, proving to be a promising prospect for Liberty.
This year, Salter has been the commander of a Flames’ offense that averages over 40 points and 494.7 total yards per game.
Showing poise as a passer, he has thrown for 763 yards, nine touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Also effective as a dual-threat, Salter has totaled 191 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, reaching a season high 82 yards in their opener.
For the Panthers to leave this game with a victory, they must either play stout defense or attempt to outscore Liberty.
Defensively, FIU needs to win the turnover battle and force the Flames to be undisciplined as a team.
Despite the lack of interceptions thrown, Liberty has allowed four fumbles this season, two of which resulted in turnovers.
Although it has yet to negatively impact them, they give up over 74 yards per game in penalties.
If the Panthers are able to remain disciplined, force turnovers and make Salter throw his first interception of the year, it should be easier to stop the Flames’ hot offense.
As the FIU football team looks to extend the win streak to four games, they take on the Liberty Flames on Saturday, Sep. 23, 2023 at the FIU Football Stadium in Miami, Florida.
Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. with the broadcast being available on ESPN+.
Prediction:
FIU: 37
Liberty: 34
