Celebrated mystery thriller author Walter Mosley will be awarded FIU’s 2024 Lawrence A. Sanders’ award, netting him an invitation to present at BBC’S WUC on March 28, at 8:00 P.M.

The award commemorates fiction writers whose work has not only globally accessibility and stellar critical reception, but also are considered works of literary masterpieces.

Previous winners of the prestigious award include  Sandra Cisnero in 2023.

Mosley, who has written over 60 books, is bringing it back to the ‘90s with his first novel “Devil in a Blue Dress” being the topic of discussion for his presentation.

Originally published in 1990, the book follows Ezekiel “Easy” Rawlins, an African-American war veteran who gets wrapped up in the messy tangle of a murder indictment, the mystery of a missing woman, and a convoluted conspiracy.

Mosley writes a large number of mystery series, with the most prominent being of course the Easy Rawlins series, as well as Leonid McGill series, the Fearless Jones mysteries and others.

But Mosley is not just limited to novels.

He has written plays such as “The Fall of Heaven” as well as “Lift”, the former following the story of a man from Harlem who is forced to return to Earth from Heaven, while an angel makes sure he stays out of trouble.

Mosley has even ventured into non-fiction, with works like “What Next: An African American Initiative Toward World Peace”, “This Year You Write Your Novel”, “Twelve Steps Toward Political Revelation”.

Additionally, Mosley even dabbles in graphic novels, such as “Maximum Fantastic Four”.

Moreover, here’s a clue about the event: there’s no cost to attend, and any student of any major can participate.

Mosley’s work may be the mystery genre, but one thing is for certain: he’ll be at BBC this Thursday.
