It’s the beginning of the end for the Wertheim School of Music’s performances this spring term with April’s catalogue of events.
Their list of events is expansive, but here’s some of PantherNOW’s suggestions on some big events to keep an eye out for.
Starting the month on April 1 are four presentations on accessibility within the arts by Dr. Rachel Grimsby, a guest speaker and researcher from James Madison University.
On April 18, 7:30 P.M. beloved Professor Barry Bernhardt will be directing the FIU Symphonic Band.
A mix of wind, brass, and percussion elements will be included in the Symphonic Band performance– proving to be a masterful final hoorah for Bernhardt’s retirement.
A highly-anticipated one coming to town is FIU’s 2024 Latin American Choral Festival: Our Voices, Our Roots, from April 18 until April 21.
The nights include pieces from masses, choruses, string harmonies and more from locations like the Caribbean and Venezuela.
Included are renowned musicians such as Juan Tomás Martínez and Carlos Silva.
Accomplished composer Orlando Jacinto Garcia is having a celebration of his 70th birthday and commemoration of all of his works. This one being one of the free events!
Penultimate event of the month is past of New Music Miami’s Festival, a concert by composer Raven Chacon, known for his “noise music”– music focused on producing noise as the focus through alternative methods such as ambience and industrial.
To end off the month with a strike, is a bolt of excitement with the FIU Musical Theatre’s rendition of the musical by Joe Tracz The Lightning Thief, it itself an adaptation of the famous book Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.
The performance runs from April 26 to April 28, leading to the end of the school of music’s performances for the semester.
