FIU Student Killed In Doral Shooting

An FIU student died early Saturday morning at a shooting in a Doral shopping mall that injured seven others.

The victim, 23-year-old George Alejandro Castellanos, worked as a security guard at Martini Bar in CityPlace Doral according to NBC6.

Castellanos was a senior at FIU, majoring in biological science with a minor in criminal justice. He was set to graduate in June.

According to Doral police officers, Castellanos intervened when a fight broke out between patrons at 3:30 a.m.

 One of the patrons, 37-year-old Jamal Wayne Wood, is said to have then drawn his gun and shot Castellanos. 

Doral Police arrived quickly on the scene and engaged in a shootout with Wood, who injured six bystanders, as well as a Doral police officer, before eventually being killed by police.

According to NBC6, Castellanos is survived by his mother and 2-year-old daughter.
