The FIU track and field team is traveling to El Paso, Texas to participate in the Conference USA Championships, beginning on Friday, May 10, 2024.
Coming into the tournament, the Panthers hold multiple top-seeded athletes in both the men’s and women’s events. Senior Nicole Janse Van Rensburg enters with the top seed in the pole vault event and freshman Luciana Gomez Iriondo enters as the fourth seed.
Beyond pole vaulting, senior Michaelle Valentin holds the No. 1 seed in the discus and looks to add her fourth medal in three years. Junior Qua’liyyah Taylor will compete alongside Valentin and holds the fourth seed.
Sophomore Christiana Ellina will compete in the javelin event and holds the second best throw this season. In the distance events, junior Valerie Lastra enters as the fourth seed in both the 800 and 1500 runs.
For the men’s events, freshman Alex Gabossy will compete in the high jump and holds the second best mark this season. Junior Ethan Riley also holds the second best mark in the pole vault event.
After finishing fifth in javelin last season, sophomore Blake Orr looks to improve upon his results, as he enters the event ranked second in CUSA. Freshman Devin Mannings also enters the tournament as the third seed in discus.
Looking to begin their postseason run, the FIU track and field team is participating in the Conference USA Championships, beginning on Friday, May 10, 2024.
