FIU alumni and Proud Boys-affiliate Barbara Balmaseda has been indicted by a grand jury on five counts for actions taken at the January 6th Capitol riots.

Balmaseda, a former intern for Marco Rubio, has been in legal trouble following her arrest in late 2023 as a result of the aforementioned charges.

The charges include obstructing official Congressional procedure, breaking and entering a restricted area, and disruptive behavior on Capitol grounds among others.

According to an FBI affidavit, Balmaseda sent over 900 messages in a Telegram group chat with members of the Proud Boys.

On the day of the riot, CCTV footage showed Balmaseda entering the Capitol building. She was located near the front of the mob and assisted in breaching the Senate wing of the Capitol where she was later escorted out by police officers.
